Guitar players will probably know the website Gilmourish. Well this is the man behind it. Bjorn is a great guitarist in his own right though.

About Bjørn

Bjørn Riis stands as one of Norway’s most acclaimed and prolific voices in progressive rock. A songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, he’s risen from the underground of obscure cover bands to global recognition—both as a founding member of Airbag and as a compelling solo artist.

For nearly two decades, Airbag and Riis have headlined sold-out shows, shared stages with genre heavyweights like Marillion, Yes, Saga, Neil Morse, and Riverside, and appeared at major festivals including Night of the Prog and Cruise to the Edge.

Riis’ life in music began in the early ’80s, ignited by Kiss, Black Sabbath, and Whitesnake. He soon picked up the guitar, spending hours decoding classic riffs and chasing strange, atmospheric sounds. Later, Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree proved crucial in shaping his identity as a songwriter.

Airbag formed in Oslo in the early 2000s, with Riis quickly taking the role as the band’s main songwriter and lyricist. His distinctive guitar work became a defining element of the band’s sound.

After cementing Airbag as a force to be reckoned with, Riis turned inward, exploring his musical roots on his 2014 solo debut Lullabies in a Car Crash. The album marked a breakthrough—both commercially and creatively—launching a solo career that continues to expand in scope and ambition.

As a solo artist, Riis crafts richly layered music drawing from a wide spectrum of influences. While the bands of his youth remain ever-present, his sound also echoes late-’60s singer-songwriters, americana, electronica, and film scores—shaping a distinctive and immersive sonic identity.

Riding the momentum of the critically acclaimed Fimbulvinter (Karisma Records, 2025), Bjørn returns with Lifandi — a raw, four-track live mini album dropping May 29, 2026.
